Enjoy a straighter, more beautiful smile thanks to porcelain veneers.
Do you feel like your smile is keeping you from feeling more confident in your appearance? Do you feel self-conscious or even embarrassed by your smile? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, then veneers are perfect for you! Read on to learn how our New Port Richey & Trinity, FL, cosmetic dentist, Dr. James Lewis, can enhance your smile with the help of this aesthetic treatment.
What are porcelain veneers?
Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to change the size, shape, color, or alignment of your smile.
Veneers are ideal if you are dealing with,
- Chips and cracks
- Discolorations and internal stains
- Misshapen or oddly shaped teeth
- Worn down teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Slightly crooked teeth or crowding
What is involved in getting veneers?
As with any cosmetic treatment, our New Port Richey & Trinity, FL, dentist will need to make sure that you are healthy enough for veneers. During your consultation, we will perform a physical exam to check the health of your teeth and to make sure that there is enough healthy tooth enamel to support your veneers. We will also chat with you about your cosmetic goals to make sure that veneers are the right choice for you.
From there we will need to prepare your teeth for the restorations. Tooth preparation is a simple and painless process that that entails removing a very small amount (usually no more than 0.5mm) of enamel from the front of your teeth to make room for the veneers. This quick tooth prep can usually be done without needing a local anesthetic.
To craft your veneers, we create molds of your smile and send them to an outside lab that prepares your restorations within a 2-to-4 week waiting period. Once your veneers are ready, you will come back into the office so that we can bond them to your teeth using dental resin and special light. The light hardens the resin, making the veneers a permanent improvement to your teeth.
