Dental technology and procedures have improved by leaps and bounds over the past few decades. Perhaps one of the most innovative dental crownsand creative ways the industry has evolved over time is through CEREC technology, which allows dentists like Dr. James Lewis to create dental restorations like crowns and bridges immediately in his office in New Port Richey, FL. Learn more about this convenient automation here.

How is CEREC used?

CEREC, an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, allows your New Port Richey dentist to use computer-aided drawing and manufacturing technology to assemble and create ceramic restorations right in his dental office. Even the process of taking impressions is computerized: Dr. Lewis takes digital impressions of the space in the patient's mouth where the restoration will go, then uploads them to the CEREC machine. The machine then transfers these precise measurements into a file that is read and then milled out of a ceramic block by a 3D printer. The "printing" process typically takes about 15 minutes, then the restoration is ready to be polished and placed.

What are the advantages of CEREC?

Whether you need a crown, veneers or dental implants, you no longer have to wait for your measurements to be sent to a laboratory to be produced and the final product shipped back to your dentist's office. The examination, preparation and placement of your restoration can take place in one appointment, eliminating the need to schedule multiple visits to Dr Lewis' office. You can be assured that your restoration will be of the highest quality.

Dr. Lewis' first priority is his patients, and he is proud to offer CEREC technology as another way of giving them the best dental experience in New Port Richey, FL. Contact our office to set up an appointment or for any questions you may have!

Father's Day Dental CareSunday, June 15 is Father’s Day. Besides the tie, cologne or shaving kit, think about giving him a gift that is significantly more long-lasting: Encouraging him to make a trip to Dr. Lewis’ office for a dental check-up.

While a dental check-up may not sound like a typical gift, think again: A man’s dental health closely impacts the health of his entire body. Plus, a dental cleaning can help keep cavities and decay at bay. Cleaner, healthier teeth means your dad is free from the aches and pains that can accompany irritated gums and damaged teeth.

Dental cleanings are typically performed once every six months. At a visit, a dental hygienist will scrape away built-up bacteria known as plaque that can harden on the teeth and lead to decay. Additionally, Dr. Lewis inspects the teeth for signs of decay and gums for signs of oral cancer.

Even if your dad has kept his recent appointment at our New Port Richey dentist office, maybe the time is right to consider another professional service. This includes cosmetic dentistry. These procedures have grown in popularity among men. Service examples we offer include porcelain veneers, teeth whitening and bonding to repair small chips or cracks in the teeth. Dr. Lewis also restores dental implants created via CEREC or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This machine enables Dr. Lewis to create a new crown that covers a dental implant in a single office visit -- a service that used to take several weeks and multiple trips to the dentist.

Your father’s health is an important and vital gift. By encouraging him to get regular physician check-ups and at least twice-yearly dental visits, you can ensure you will celebrate many Father’s Days with him.
